Last all-NWT meeting of the year will be a discussion focused on best-practices/lessons learned from microscale climate measurements at Niwot Ridge. An exciting new area of many research projects at Niwot is characterizing environmental heterogeneity over complex terrain as well as responses to that variability. Accurate measurements of temperature and moisture are critical to pursuing this research, but many of us are not experts in making these measurements. This will be a working session to share NWT-specific knowledge and best practices; compile lessons learned from comparative work (e.g. experiments comparing alternate radiation shields for temperature sensors) and discuss what-worked and what-didn't based on past temperature and moisture measurement campaigns (shielding, calibration, hobo vs ibutton vs tomst, etc). We will aim to create a short SOP/best practices to ensure that new NWT deployments have a high success rate.
